Charleston Drops Road Contest to Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. — The University of Charleston (12-10, 8-7 MEC) was unable to overcome a tough second quarter, falling to Frostburg State University (13-9, 8-7 MEC) by a score of 63-53 on Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.

The Basics:
Location: Bobcat Arena
Score: 63-53
Records: UC 12-10 (8-7 MEC); Frostburg 13-9 (8-7 MEC)

How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles started strong, leading 20-15 after the first quarter thanks to an efficient offensive performance. However, their momentum stalled in the second frame, where they managed just two points while shooting a frigid 5.6% from the field. Frostburg State capitalized, taking a 27-22 lead into halftime.

Charleston showed signs of life in the second half, with Paris Stokes leading the charge. Stokes scored a team-high 14 points on 7-of-15 shooting and added five rebounds. Kiley Graham contributed 11 points, including a key three-pointer, and Jamia Nesmith added nine points and six rebounds. The Golden Eagles outscored Frostburg State 20-19 in the final quarter but couldn't close the gap.

Despite Charleston's improved shooting in the fourth quarter (57.1%), Frostburg State's efficiency from beyond the arc and free-throw line made the difference. The Bobcats hit 63.6% of their three-point attempts, compared to Charleston's 26.7%, and went 20-for-28 from the charity stripe.

Statistically, Frostburg State held the edge in rebounding (39-31) and points off turnovers (18-17), while Charleston dominated points in the paint (34-18). Frostburg State's Emilee Weakley led all scorers with 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.
