Florence, SC. – The Golden Eagles dropped a pair of games to the UNC Pembroke Braves on Tuesday afternoon.
GAME 1
The Basics:
Location: Carolina Bank Field
Score: UC 2, UNCP 13
Records: Charleston 1-7 UNC Pembroke 9-5
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles got behind early as the Braves scored two runs in the first inning to take the lead over Charleston. Pembroke then added on a pair of runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 4-0. The Braves went on to add another pair of runs in the third followed by a pair of runs in the fourth to take the 8-0 advantage over the Golden Eagles.
Charleston found the score sheet in the top of the fifth when they plated a pair of runs, Carter Rust and Trent Dosenbach each collecting an RBI. The Braves responded in the bottom of the sixth with four more runs and then a final run in the bottom of the eighth. The game went on to finish 13-2 in favor of UNC Pembroke.
GAME 2
The Basics:
Location: Carolina Bank Field
Score: UC 2, UNCP 3
Records: Charleston 1-8 UNC Pembroke 10-5
How it Happened:
Charleston crossed the plate first in game two, plating two runs in the top of the second off two hits and one Pembroke error. Charleston held their lead for the next inning and a half, but in the bottom of the fourth the Braves knotted the scoring at 2-2 off two hits.
The game was tied as the teams headed to the bottom of the sixth inning. Charleston pitching loaded the bases on two hit by pitch and a walk, so with one out, the Braves produced a productive out with a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring the go ahead run. Charleston proceeded to collect the final out of the inning on the next batter, but with the damage done, the Golden Eagles need a run in the top of the seventh to avoid the loss.
Unfortunately, Charleston was sat down in order in the top of the inning, ending the game 3-2, UNC Pembroke completing the sweep of the afternoon doubleheader.
