CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston softball team split its Tuesday afternoon doubleheader, dropping a 1-0 battle in the opener before bouncing back with a dominant 8-0 shutout in five innings in game two.

Game 1: Charleston Falls in Pitcher's Duel, 1-0
Charleston (5-1) fought through a low-scoring affair but came up just short after a single in the fifth inning led to the only run of the game.
Chloe Elliott pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on seven hits with six strikeouts and no walks.
Despite solid pitching, the Golden Eagles' offense struggled to find momentum, managing just five hits. Charleston put runners in scoring position in the seventh after
Kayla Moran and
Ella Zucchero reached base, but the rally was cut short.
Game 2: Charleston Responds with 8-0 Run-Rule Victory
The Golden Eagles bounced back in dominant fashion, scoring five runs in the first inning and rolling to an 8-0 victory in five innings.
Addison Mass (2-0) was outstanding in the circle, throwing a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits with four strikeouts.
Charleston capitalized early with disciplined at-bats, drawing six walks and producing timely hits.
Kyra Gooler fueled the offense with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, finishing 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Zucchero added an RBI sacrifice fly, while Moran and
Brittny Ogg each drove in a run. Charleston finished with six hits and seven RBIs while playing error-free defense.
