How it Happened:
Game 1: Charleston Struggles at the Plate in 3-0 Loss
The Golden Eagles had a tough outing in the first game, managing just two hits against UPJ pitcher Mia Smith. Despite drawing four walks, Charleston was unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Defensively, pitcher Chloe Elliott kept the Golden Eagles in the game, allowing just two earned runs across seven innings while striking out six. However, a three-run fifth inning from the Mountain Cats proved to be the difference, as Charleston's offense couldn't find a spark to respond.
Game 2: Charleston Bounces Back with Explosive Offense
The Golden Eagles rebounded in a big way in game two, shutting out UPJ behind a dominant performance from pitcher Addison Mass, who improved to 5-0 on the season. Mass allowed just one hit while striking out six in a complete-game effort.
The offense came alive in the second inning when Hannah Meyer launched a two-run homer to give Charleston an early lead. After a few quiet innings, the bats erupted in the fifth, scoring five runs. Meyer continued her impressive day, tripling to lead off the inning and scoring on an error. Ella Zucchero, Raegan West, and Lindsey Phares each contributed RBI hits in the frame. West capped off the rally with a two-run single to extend the lead to 7-0.
Charleston added one more in the sixth whenKayla Moran and Meyer strung together hits, leading to an unearned run on a defensive miscue by UPJ.
