INSTITUTE, W.Va. – The University of Charleston softball team swept West Virginia State University in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Lady Jackets Field, winning the first game decisively, 13-0, in a five-inning no-hitter before securing the second contest, 8-4.

How it Happened:
In game one, the Golden Eagles dominated early, scoring three runs in the first inning with RBI groundouts by Kyra Gooler and Lindsey Phares, and a double steal executed by Kayla Moran and Hannah Meyer. Charleston broke the game wide open in the second inning, plating five more runs highlighted by Bianca Polistina's two-RBI double and Phares' two-run single.
Charleston added another five-run frame in the third, sparked by back-to-back home runs from Phares, a three-run blast, and Meyer, who followed immediately with a solo shot. Addison Mass was masterful in the circle, twirling a no-hitter with nine strikeouts and allowing just three walks in five innings.
Game two featured a tighter matchup, but the Golden Eagles' offense continued to shine. Kaleigh Serra gave UC the lead in the second inning with a two-run homer to left field. Ella Zucchero and Polistina extended Charleston's lead with RBI hits in the fourth, while Serra delivered again in the fifth inning with a two-run double.
After West Virginia State narrowed the gap to 6-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, UC secured the win with two more runs in the seventh inning, thanks to RBI singles from Brittny Ogg and Allison Rubal.
Chloe Elliot earned the win in the circle in game two, striking out seven batters and scattering nine hits across seven innings of work.
