Charleston falls to Barton College in a close matchup

WILSON, N.C. – The Golden Eagles Lacrosse team fell short in a hard-fought 15-12 battle against Barton College on Wednesday morning at Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium.

The Basics:

  • Location: Electric Supply Company Field at Truist Stadium
  • Score: UC 12, BC 15
  • Records: UC 7-3 (1-1 MEC), BC 7-4 (3-0 CC)

How it Happened:

The Golden Eagles took the field with a new face in goal, as freshman Jozette Rimkus started in net for Charleston. Both teams came out firing, playing evenly through the opening minutes, but it was Barton who struck first with 11:10 remaining in the first quarter. UC quickly responded, with Madison Partridge scoring an unassisted goal to level the score. However, Barton seized momentum, netting three rapid-fire goals. Not to be outdone, Madison Partridge ignited Charleston's offense, scoring twice in the closing minutes, including a free-position shot to end the quarter with the Golden Eagles trailing 4-3.

The second quarter saw both teams exchanging momentum. Barton came out strong, scoring two quick goals, but Charleston answered with a five-goal run. Sylvi Jenner opened the streak, and Alyse Weber capped it off, with the Golden Eagles seizing an 8-6 lead. Barton managed to pull back two goals, tying the game 8-8 at halftime.

The third quarter, however, was a different story. The Bulldogs dominated, forcing UC into 7 turnovers and capitalizing with four unanswered goals. Madison Partridge's lone goal in the quarter helped narrow the gap, but Charleston found themselves trailing 12-9 heading into the final period.

Despite a strong effort in the fourth quarter, the Golden Eagles were playing catch-up. Barton quickly extended their lead with two goals in the first two minutes. Partridge responded with two more goals to keep the game within reach, but it wasn't enough. The teams exchanged goals late, and the final whistle blew with the Bulldogs on top, 15-12.

With the loss, Charleston goes to 7 and 3 on the year. Madison Partridge put on a phenomenal performance, scoring 8 goals, matching the second-highest total in a single game in UC history.
