Elkins and Buckhannon, W.Va. – Charleston swept the Thursday series from Davis & Elkins before dropping a pair of games to West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday afternoon.
GAME 1
The Basics:

Score: UC 3. D&E 0
Records: UC 25-12 (16-7 MEC) Daivs & Elkins 22-24 (15-8)
How it Happened:
Brittny Ogg got the Golden Eagles on the board in the top of the second with a two out RBI double to score Lindsey Phares and Reagan West who each reached in singles earlier in the inning. Hannah Meyer then tacked on an insurance run on top of the sixth with a solo homerun to give the Golden Eagles the 3-0 advantage.
Addison Mass was the star of the show for Charleston as the righty spun a one hit shutout to collect her 17
th win of the season. Mass collected nine strikeouts in the win.
GAME 2
The Basics:
Location: Joni Smith Field
Score: UC 11, D&E 7
Records: UC 26-12 (17-7 MEC) Daivs & Elkins 22-25 (15-9)
How it Happened:
Game two saw some back-and-forth action and needed to see extra innings to decide a winner. Charleston got things started in the second inning with a single run on a Reagan West single. Davis & Elkins then answered with a two RBI double to take their first lead of the day, ahead 2-1 over the Golden Eagles.
The lead did not last long though as UC's Hannah Meyer doubled to score Kyra Gooler. Lindsey Phares then followed it up wit ha double to score both Alli Rubal and Meyer. The Charleston bats were not finished just yet, Reagan West collecting her second hit of the afternoon and two more RBI's. Kyra Gooler then finished the inning off with an RBI single, Charleston taking the lead 7-2 as they headed to the bottom half of the inning.
The Senators managed to get one back in the bottom half of the inning, the run coming by way of UC error, cutting the deficit to 7-3, Golden Eagles still leading.
Davis & Elkins needed some late game magic and they found just that as Lina Gutierrez blasted a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 7-7 and give her team a glimmer of hope. The Senators then kept the Golden Eagles scoreless in the seventh, and after not scoring themselves despite having a runner on third with one out, the game was headed to the eighth.
In the top of the eighth, Kaleigh Serra led things off with a pinch hit walk before Allie Rubal reached on an error advancing the runner third. Hannah Meyer then singled to score the runner and advance Rubal to third. Lindsey Phares then followed with a double to score both Rubal and Meyer. The final run of the inning came off a first and third play that allowed Phares to steal home on the runner stealing second. Charleston with the 11-7 lead just needed three outs from relief pitcher Addison Mass.
Mass sat the Senators down in order, collecting her 18
th win of the season and securing the series sweep for the Golden Eagles.
GAME 3
The Basics:

Score: UC 0, WVWC 1
Records: UC 26-13 (17-8 MEC) WV Wesleyan 16-31 (11-14 MEC)
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles Addison Mass and West Virginia Weselyan's Kendall Stoffel were in a quite the pitchers duel in game one of Friday's doubleheader. The game featured just three hits combined for both teams, Wesleyan having two of the three. The lone run of the game came in the third inning when the Bobcats hitter singled to left field and advanced all the way home on a UC error. The Golden Eagles could not find a hit for the remainder of the game, falling by a final score of 1-0 to the Bobcats.
GAME 4
The Basics:
Location: Culpepper Field
Score: UC 3, WVWC 5
Records: UC 26-14 (17-9 MEC) WV Wesleyan 17-31 (12-14 MEC)
How it Happened:
Charleston found the lead in the first inning of game two after a Taylor Hodson RBI double to take an early 1-0 lead. Wesleyan did not waste any time responding as they tied the game at 1-1 after an RBI bases loaded single.
The Bobcats then gained the lead in the second when they plated two runs on three hits for the 3-1 lead over Charleston. After sitting the next six Golden Eagles down in order, the Bobcats went back to work and plated two more runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth for the 5-1 advantage.
Charleston got one run back in the top of the sixth on a Brittny Ogg RBI single. They then scored another run in the top of the seventh on a Lindsey Phares RBI single, but the Bobcats shut down the damage and took the victory 5-3 over the Golden Eagles.
Up Next:
Charleston will host Frostburg State and Fairmont State this weekend to close out the regular season. The Golden Eagles will take on the Bobcats scheduled for Friday, April 25
th at 2:00PM. Charleston will then return to action Sunday, April 27
th at 12:00PM to take on the Fighting Falcons on Senior Day.
