Golden Eagles Soar Past Wesleyan 23-5 to Close Regular Season in Style

CHARLESTON, WV – The University of Charleston women's lacrosse team closed out its regular season in commanding fashion, dismantling West Virginia Wesleyan 23-5 on the road at Cebe Ross Field.

The Basics:

  • Location: Cebe Ross Field
  • Score: UC 23, WVW 5
  • Records: UC 12-5 (6-2 MEC), WVW 2-14 (0-8 MEC)

How it Happened:

Charleston wasted no time asserting control, scoring on their first five shots of the game. Madison Partridge and Sylvi Jenner each found the net twice, while Darby Stolz added another to quickly make it 5-0. After a brief save by Wesleyan's goalie, UC ramped up the pressure again. A caused turnover by Avery Butts led to Partridge's third of the game, followed by a free position goal from Willow Cooper and a strike by senior Hannah Calvert. The Bobcats got one back, but Cooper responded with another free position goal to end the first quarter with a commanding 9-1 lead.

The Golden Eagles kept rolling in the second. After Cooper controlled the opening draw, Jenner set up Partridge for her fourth goal. Cooper followed with her third—again on a free position shot—to trigger the running clock. Wesleyan added a goal, but UC answered with a flurry: Slinkard, Sabatino, and Calvert each tallied to send Charleston into halftime up 14-2.

In the third quarter, UC gave starting goalkeeper Megan Liston a rest, bringing in Jozette Rimkus. Wesleyan showed some spark with two early goals, but UC quickly shut the door. Butts caused another key turnover, and Charleston poured in five unanswered—highlighted by goals from Cooper, Partridge, Carlson, and a pair from Mackenzie Jones.

Up 19-4 heading into the final frame, the Golden Eagles showcased their depth. With fresh faces on the field, they still outplayed the Bobcats. Ella Russano netted two, while Caitlyn Donovan and senior Jasmine James each added one. Wesleyan grabbed a late goal, but it was too little, too late.

Partridge led all scorers with five goals, capping off an incredible regular season. Cooper added four, continuing her standout year as well.
