Lacrosse Continues to Build on Strong Form

Charleston, Wv. – The Golden Eagles Lacrosse team capped off a strong week with a 17-10 victory over Wheeling University on Senior Day.

The Basics:

  • Location: Welch Athletic Complex
  • Score: UC 17, WU 10
  • Records: UC 9-4 (3-1 MEC), WU 4-5 (2-2 MEC)

How it Happened:

After honoring their seniors, the Golden Eagles came out with intense focus and energy. In less than three minutes, both teams exchanged goals, with UC's top scorer, Madison Partridge, netting the first. Following Wheeling's response, Charleston's offense took over, rattling off six straight goals. The first quarter ended with a dominant 7-1 lead, highlighted by a free-position goal from freshman Alyse Weber—her third goal of the game.

The second quarter was more competitive, as Wheeling fought back. Both teams exchanged goals early, with each keeper making a crucial save. Midway through the quarter, Darby Stolz assisted on two consecutive goals to push the lead to 10-2. Wheeling added another late goal, but UC took a commanding 10-3 advantage into halftime.

Charleston didn't let up after the break. Sylvi Jenner wasted no time, scoring less than 30 seconds into the second half to reassert UC's dominance. Senior Hannah Calvert, one of the day's honorees, scored the final goal of the quarter, extending the lead even further.

With a commanding lead heading into the final period, the Golden Eagles quickly put the game out of reach. Just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter, UC scored two more goals, triggering a running clock. Although Wheeling mounted a late push, the game was well in hand for Charleston.

The Golden Eagles were flawless on clears, going 9-for-9. Partridge and Jenner each finished with four goals, leading the offensive charge.

With this win following their victory over West Virginia Wesleyan, Charleston continues to build momentum, improving their record to 9-4, 3-1 in the MEC.
