Exciting Start as Charleston Hosts Day One of Home Tournament

Charleston, W.Va. – Charleston opened the UC WVSU Crossover with a 3–1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan behind 12 kills from Patrycja Majos and 18 digs from Chloe Fortner. The Golden Eagles came up short in the night match, falling 3–0 to East Stroudsburg despite double-digit kills from Emma Antigua and Majos. Charleston finishes day one of the tournament with a split and moves to 4–2 on the season.

The Basics:
Location: Wehrle Innovation Center
Score: 3-1 (25-20, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20)
Records: UC 4-1 (0-0 MEC), Kentucky Wesleyan College 0-4 (0-0 CIAA)
 
How it Happened:
Charleston opened the UC WVSU Crossover Tournament with a 3–1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan. The Golden Eagles took the first set 25 to 20 before falling in a close second set 25 to 21. Charleston bounced back with a dominant 25 to 12 win in the third and sealed the match 25 to 20 in the fourth.
Patrycja Majos led the way with 12 kills, Kate Strong added 7, and Kalista Milne finished with 6. Abby Avila and Julie Michalkova each served 3 aces, and Sophia Knowles recorded 3 blocks. Chloe Burton ran the offense with 22 assists and Avila chipped in 14. On defense Chloe Fortner collected 18 digs, Michalkova had 15, and Catalina Albores added 6. UC held the momentum across the board and secured its fourth win of the year.

Offensive leaders: Patrycja Majos paced the attack with 12 kills. Kate Strong added 7 and Kalista Milne finished with 6. Chloe Burton guided the offense with 22 assists while Abby Avila contributed 14.
Defensive leaders: Chloe Fortner anchored the back row with 18 digs, Julie Michalkova added 15, and Catalina Albores chipped in 6. At the net, Sophia Knowles led with 3 blocks.

Score: 0-3 (25-21, 25-22, 25-21)
Records: UC 4-2 (0-0 MEC), East Stroudsburg  4-2 (0-0 CIAA)
 
How it Happened:
Charleston closed out day one against East Stroudsburg and came up short in three sets. The Warriors edged out Charleston in each set by scores of 25 to 21, 25 to 22, and 25 to 21.
Emma Antigua helped keep the Golden Eagles in every set with 12 kills, followed by Patrycja Majos with 10 and Kalista Milne with 8. Abby Avila added 2 aces while Chloe Burton finished with 18 assists and Avila tallied 16. Defensively, Chloe Fortner led with 15 digs and Milne picked up 9. Despite the loss, Charleston showed fight in every set and ended the opening day of the tournament with a split.

Offensive leaders: Emma Antigua led with 12 kills, followed by Patrycja Majos with 10 and Kalista Milne with 8. Abby Avila tallied 16 assists and Chloe Burton added 18.
Defensive leaders: Chloe Fortner recorded 15 digs to lead the back row and Milne picked up 9.
 
 
Up Next:
Charleston will head to day 2 of their home tournament to face off against Roberts Wesleyan University at 1:00pm and finish the tournament against Shepherd University at 7:00pm
