Golden Eagles Take Down #10

Charleston, W.Va.. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles travelled to #10 Concord this past Wednesday for a Mountain East Conference matchup.

The Basics:
Location: Callaghan Stadium
Score: UC 2, CU 1
Records: UC 3-0-2 (2-0-1 MEC) Concord 4-1-0 (3-1-0 MEC)

How it Happened:
The first chance of the game fell to the Golden Eagles when Jack Allan got on the end of a Tomas Muller corner, but the post denied him. Minutes later, Joao Silva got his head onto another delivery into the Concord area, but he too was unable to convert, this time the ball going over the bar. The Golden Eagles dominated proceedings in the first half and in the 34th minute got their noses in front to confirm this. A short free kick from Franco Tradatti and Caio Moraes was played to Sam Newell, and he struck a thunderbolt into the top right corner from over 30 yards out to put the Golden Eagles ahead. Charleston were able to see out the half at 1-0, with 8 shots to Concord's 3.

Into the second half and it was Concord who got their name on the scoresheet next. A long throw wasn't cleared by the Golden Eagles and it fell to Dominique Malhomme around the penalty spot, and he clinically smashed it past a helpless Kostis Parisis in net. 61 seconds later however, the tide turned again. Malher Santi Possu was shown a second yellow card for simulation in the Charleston penalty area and so Concord had to finish the game with ten. The Golden Eagles continued to push for the go ahead goal and in the 77th minute they got it. Tomas Muller found himself on the ball at the back post and cleverly beat a Concord defender before smashing the ball towards goal. After a deflection the ball sailed into the roof of the net to make it 2-1. Charleston controlled the tempo for the remaining twelve minutes to come away with the three points.
