Golden Eagles Power Past Point Park Pioneers

Charleston, W.Va. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed Point Park University to the Welch Athletic Complex this past Sunday for a Mountain East Conference matchup.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 3, PPU 0
Records: UC 4-0-2 (3-0-1 MEC) Point Park 2-3-0 (2-2-0 MEC)

How it Happened:
The first chance of the game came in the third minute as Martin Echarren was found by Joao Silva but he was smothered by the Pioneers keeper on the right hand side of the area. Tomas Petrungaro also had a couple of chances in the first half but couldn't find the target with either. The Golden Eagles carried on piling on the pressure and almost got the breakthrough in the 43rd minute. Leo Dutra got his head on a corner which was well saved, and he then volleyed the rebound over the bar. A minute later however, Charleston got the goal they were looking for. Dutra was involved again, this time down the right hand side, and he squared it to Denys Verbinskyi who hit a composed finish into the bottom left corner, sending the Golden Eagles into the half time break 1-0 up.

Into the second half and Charleston had three shots early on, but only once tested Point Park's keeper. In the 57th minute, Jack Allan got his head on a Samuel Montes corner to double the lead. The Golden Eagles controlled the tempo for the remainder, and added a third in the 83rd minute. McKenzie Mason leapt highest from a Tomas Muller corner to head home his first goal in Charleston colors.

The game finished 3-0 and leaves the Golden Eagles with a record of 4-0-2 (3-0-1).
