How it Happened:
Charleston opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with an impressive 14-play, 75-yard drive that chewed over six minutes off the clock. Quarterback Ean Hamric capped the march with a three-yard rushing touchdown to give UC a 7–0 lead. Glenville answered quickly, striking back just 90 seconds later with an 80-yard drive that ended in a seven-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah King to tie the game 7–7.
The Pioneers carried that momentum into the second quarter, taking advantage of a short field to punch in a six-yard rushing score from King, then adding a nine-yard touchdown pass to Amari Colon-Brown minutes later to build a 21–7 advantage. The Golden Eagles refused to fold, and Hamric connected with receiver Yves Bosmans on a highlight 57-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 21–14. UC's defense then forced a key stop late in the half, and kicker Gryffin Mitstifer drilled a 22-yard field goal with 33 seconds left, pulling Charleston within 21–17 at halftime.
Coming out of the break, the Golden Eagles continued to build momentum. A balanced 11-play, 56-yard drive midway through the third quarter ended with Hamric finding Aiden Diaz on a 15-yard touchdown strike, giving UC its first lead since early in the game at 24–21. Charleston's defense followed with another big stand, highlighted by a strip sack from Brian Jones that halted a Glenville drive in UC territory.
The turning point came early in the fourth quarter when Jones broke through for a punt block deep in Pioneer territory. The Golden Eagles took advantage immediately, with Hamric powering in from two yards out for his second rushing score of the day and a 31–21 lead. With under two minutes remaining, Glenville kept the pressure on, mounting a 90-yard drive capped by a two-yard rushing touchdown from quarterback Anthony Garrett to close the gap to 31–28. Charleston's hands team smothered the ensuing onside kick, and Hamric sealed the game with kneel downs to run out the clock.
Hamric finished as the catalyst for the Golden Eagles, passing for 141 yards and two touchdowns while adding 83 rushing yards and two more scores. Bosmans tallied 79 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Diaz added 39 yards and a score on four receptions. The UC rushing attack piled up 214 yards behind the steady efforts of Justin McDuffie and Joshua Donald.
On defense, Jones delivered a game-changing performance with five tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, and the punt block that shifted the game in Charleston's favor. Carter Hamilton added two tackles for loss and a sack, while Denoris Wardlow and Aden Miller tied for the team lead with six stops apiece.
Charleston controlled the ball for over 34 minutes of possession, converted half of its third downs, and made critical plays in all three phases to earn the hard-fought victory. The Golden Eagles will now look to build on back-to-back conference wins as they continue league play next week.
