How it Happened:
Charleston dominated the ball in the first half, but their 63% possession did not amount to a lot. They were astute defensively and went into half time at 0-0, with either side having two shots on goal.
Into the second half and the Golden Eagles looked to up gears. Denys Verbinskyi and Martin Echarren held the ball up well to bring the likes of Tomas Petrungaro, Jose Suarez Monaco, and Allan Logrillo into play, but their team in Maroon found it difficult to break the Cardinals down. The best chance of the game fell to Echarren, whose header was saved by Nick Kay between the sticks, and Allan Logrillo had a beautiful left footed finish disallowed due to a foul called on Verbinskyi in the build up. Kostis Parisis didn't have a save to make in the second half with Joao Silva, Jack Allan, Franco Tradatti, and Tomas Muller looking comfortable in front of him.
As the final whistle blew, it finished Saginaw Valley 0-0 University of Charleston, leaving both with a record of 0-0-1 to kick off 2025.
