Golden Eagles Come Away with the Three Points in Home Opener

Charleston, W.Va.. - The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed the Tiffin Dragons to the Welch Athletic Complex this past Sunday, September 8, for their 2025 fall season home opener.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 2, TU 0
Records: UC 1-0-1 (0-0-0 MEC) Tiffin 0-1-0

How it Happened:
The game got off to a lightning quick start as Caio Moraes won the Golden Eagles a penalty with not even ninety seconds on the clock, after he was tripped in the area. Martin Echarren stepped up, but his effort was saved by Nick Cherry down low to his left to keep the game scoreless. Moraes and Echarren also had headed chances during the first half for the team in white, but neither were able to find the target, and the two sides headed into the break with the deadlock left unbroken.

Into the second half and again the Golden Eagles came out of the blocks quickly. In the 49th minute, Tomas Petrungaro picked up a loose ball just outside the Dragons area and ran towards the byline before cutting back and putting in a right foot curled cross into the path of Frenchman Allan Logrillo who buried it for his first goal of the season. Logrillo nearly got himself on the scoresheet twice more when he first smashed a strike off the woodwork, and then another was tipped onto the crossbar by Dragons keeper Cherry. The Golden Eagles eventually got their second to wrap the game up in 87th minute when Jose Suarez Monaco found Martin Echarren in the area, and this time he made no mistake in finding the back of the net for his first of the season.

The result gives Charleston their first victory of the season and they are now 1-0-1 heading into their next game against the Cardinals of Wheeling University.

Up Next:
Charleston will welcome Wheeling on September 8th, in the first WAC Wednesday of the season.
