The Basics:
Location: McDonnell Center
Score: UC 90, D&E 86
Records: Charleston 9-6 (5-4 MEC), Davis & Elkins 6-10 (3-6 MEC)
How it Happened:
The Golden Eagles trailed 42–41 at the break after a tightly contested first half, but responded with an aggressive, high-energy second half to secure the conference win. Charleston showed resilience throughout, answering every D&E run with timely baskets and defensive stops down the stretch.
After falling behind early in the second half, UC began to seize momentum behind its transition offense and perimeter shooting. Thomas Hailey continued to anchor the Golden Eagles inside, finishing strong at the rim and throwing down multiple dunks as Charleston chipped away at the deficit. Kaden Davis provided a spark off the bench, knocking down a key three-pointer and scoring on the break to help UC take its first multi-possession lead midway through the half. Charleston's ball movement was sharp during the run, with Hamilton Campbell orchestrating the offense and setting up teammates for high-percentage looks.
The turning point came during a decisive stretch from the 11-minute mark to under eight minutes remaining, as Trevor Barrett caught fire from beyond the arc, drilling four three-pointers to push Charleston's lead to double digits. Eli Robertson added another triple during the run, while the Golden Eagles' defense forced turnovers and limited second-chance opportunities. Despite Davis & Elkins cutting the margin late with free throws and a fast-break three, Charleston stayed composed at the line in the final seconds, sealing the win with clutch free throws from Ayinde Taylor II, Braden Chapman, Thomas Hailey, and Kaden Davis. The victory highlighted Charleston's depth, balance, and late-game poise as the Golden Eagles continued conference play.
