Golden Eagles Come from Behind to take Three Points

Charleston, W.Va.- The University of Charleston Golden Eagles welcomed Point Park to the WAC this past Sunday for a Mountain East Conference matchup.

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 4, PPU 1
Records: Charleston 10-2-0 (7-1-0 MEC) Point Park 5-5-3 (4-4-1 MEC)

How it Happened:
Just two minutes in, Point Park took the lead in a deja vu moment for the Golden Eagles, as what seemed to be a clear foul was not given for the second home game in a row, and Hector Moreno ran through before rounding Luka Felix and passing into an empty net. In the 14th minute though, Charleston equalized. Samuel Marquez's pass allowed Imtie Kamaldien to deliver from the right-hand side first time onto the head of Mattia Marini, and Marini's header across goal found Caio Moraes who's first effort hit the crossbar, but he bundled the ball home at the second time of asking. Two minutes before half time, the Golden Eagles took the lead as Moraes, Marquez, and Marini combined again. Moraes released Marquez down the right-hand side, he cut back inside and floated a cross towards the back post for Marini to attack and bury back across the Point Park keeper. Charleston led 2-1 going into the break.

Into the second half and the first shot came from a Moraes free kick that Martin Echarren guided on target, but was easy work for the man between the sticks. Point Park's best chance of the half fell to their goalscorer Moreno in the 73rd minute, but he couldn't keep his effort underneath the crossbar. The Golden Eagles punished the miss four minutes later as the ever-involved Moraes pressed and won a couple of challenges before squaring for the on-rushing Jose Suarez Monaco to tuck home to make it 3-1. With five minutes left on the clock, a Moraes corner found the head of Pedro Arbizu. His effort was saved, but Atem Kato was on hand to finish the rebound, putting the icing on the cake for Charleston.

Up Next:
Up next for the Golden Eagles is a trip to Buckhannon, WV for a Mountain East Conference contest against West Virginia Wesleyan this Wednesday October 14th. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30pm under the lights.
