Charleston Takes Three-Set Win Over Central State

Charleston, W.Va. — Charleston controlled the match from start to finish on Tuesday night at home, sweeping Central State University in straight sets (25–17, 25–17, 25–15) while also giving extended action to several Golden Eagles who have seen limited time this season.

THE BASICS:
Location: Charleston, W.Va. (Wehrle Innovation Center)
score: Charleston 3, Central State 0 (25–17, 25–17, 25–15)
Records: Charleston 9–6 (3–1 EIVA); Central State 4–9 (0–0 SIAC)

How it Happened:
Charleston set the tone early in the opening set, capitalizing on a series of Central State errors to spark a four-point run and jump out to a 10–5 advantage. From there, the Golden Eagles maintained control by steadily extending the lead through small runs, again taking advantage of mistakes on the Marauders' side. UC reached the 20-point mark first at 20–14 before the teams exchanged points down the stretch. The set closed on a decisive left-handed kill from Marco Kost to give Charleston the 25–17 win.

Set two opened with a more balanced exchange, but Charleston once again seized momentum by reaching double digits first with a 10–6 lead. The Golden Eagles continued to pull away throughout the middle portion of the set, stretching the margin to 20–13. UC closed the frame by trading points before Erel Bardah delivered a key kill, followed by a service ace from Marton Zarka to seal another 25–17 victory.

With momentum firmly on the Golden Eagles side, Charleston carried strong energy into the third set. After early ties at 8–8 and 10–10, Central State briefly took a one-point edge before UC responded with a decisive 10-point run. Bardah's serving fueled the surge, while Central State errors helped the Golden Eagles create separation. Charleston reached 20 points with a 20–12 lead and calmly traded points until a Central State service error closed out the match, completing the 25–15 set and the 3–0 sweep.
