How it Happened:
Charleston won the tip off in this game, and Thomas Hailey started off with a bucket on the first possession. Hailey had another basket, and Braden Chapman nailed a three to give Charleston an early 7-0 lead. UC put good work in from three-point line nailing multiple early in the half. Glenville state fired back though as Ammar Maxwell made some buckets and brought the game back even. The Golden Eagles and the Pioneers went back and forth in the first half, and this would be the story for the game as a whole. Braden Chapman stayed hot for this entire half leading UC in scoring throughout the first half. Glenville state did not back down and hung right with Charleston. A foul from the Golden Eagles led to GSU making a free throw to end the half tied at 35.
Junior Hamilton Campbell started the second half off with the first five points, giving UC an early lead. GSU scored back, but Charleston's Braden Chapman hit two more three pointers to keep UC ahead. Glenville State was constantly able to keep the game close, never backing down. UC's Thomas Hailey, Hamilton Campbell and Ben Nicol had good halves as well. Ben Nicol hit Back-to-Back threes late in the half putting the Golden Eagles up five. This was followed by a three by Hamilton Campbell with just over a minute left making the game 72-69. Glenville State answered right back with a three of their own tying the game up. It was nothing but defense in the last minute of the second half, and this game was forced into overtime.
The game was intense in this five-minute OT as each team continued to pick up their defense. GSU scored first, but Charleston's Ben Nicol answered with a three giving Charleston a one-point lead. GSU had a dunk, but Thomas Hailey had a layup, and UC stayed in front. Glenville State tied the game up with some free throws but after that they fouled Matthew Shelton as he had an open bucket. Shelton got injured on the intentional foul allowing UC to send Braden Chapman to the charity stripe. Chapman nailed both free throws, giving UC the 79-78 victory.
Braden Chapman led scores with 26 points and Thomas Hailey had a double-double.
