How it Happened
UC started off hot in their second to last game of the season. Charleston scored the first eleven points of the game; Harper Annarino landed two three-pointers to make her the leading scorer of the run. Glenville State tried slowly making their way back in this one after the Pioneers nearly made a whole lineup change. This plan worked as Glenville state scored eight points while playing great defense, making a closer 12-8 game. The teams traded buckets for the rest of the quarter, but Paris Stokes had five key points to end the quarter and UC lead 19-12.
Ksenija Mitric started the second quarter with a three-giving the Golden Eagles ten-point lead. This lead wouldn't last long as GSU stormed back. With about five minutes left in the half, a few jumpers and easy layups from the Pioneers brought the game back even. Jordan Scully nailed a three pointer, but the Pioneers matched it with a three of their own a few possessions later. Glenville State guard Peyton James hit a three-pointer giving GSU their first lead of the game at 34-33. The Pioneers continued building their lead and ended the half with a 40-35 lead.
There wasn't much good in the third quarter for the Golden Eagles as Glenville State went on a 14-1 run in the first five minutes of this quarter. Ksenija Mitric finally broke the cold spell with a three pointer, but the damage had been done. GSU now had a 54-39 lead. UC did not find any offense or defense for the rest of the quarter and ended up down twenty-four to end the third. Charleston had a hill to climb down 68-44 going into the final stretch.
The fourth quarter was almost Identical as the Pioneers were too much. A combination shooting and defense stopped UC in their tracks. Despite a few scores, the Golden Eagles never found an answer as they dropped this conference match up 87-66.
Paris stokes and Ksenija Mitric led scorers and combined for 28 points.
