Salem, Va. — The University of Charleston softball team earned a 6-1 victory over Shippensburg on Saturday, March 14 at the Moyer Sports Complex.

How It Happened
Charleston jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. E. Zucchero opened the game with a walk and T. Hodson followed with a single to left field to put two runners on base. K. Moran then doubled to left field, bringing both runners home as T. Hodson and E. Zucchero scored to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 advantage.
The Golden Eagles extended their lead in the second inning. K. Serra drew a walk before M. Hataway reached on a bunt single. E. Smith moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. E. Zucchero followed with a triple to left field that drove in both M. Hataway and K. Serra to make it 4-0. Later in the inning, C. Masters doubled to left center to score E. Zucchero and push the lead to 5-0.
Charleston threatened again in the fourth when E. Zucchero doubled and T. Hodson singled to shortstop to put runners on the corners, but Shippensburg worked out of the inning.
The Golden Eagles added another run in the sixth. E. Smith singled through the left side and later scored when T. Hodson delivered an RBI single to center field to extend the Charleston lead to 6-0.
Shippensburg got on the board in the bottom of the sixth. B. Wilmot doubled to right field and later came around to score when R. Bauman singled to shortstop to make the score 6-1.
Charleston closed the game out in the seventh to secure the win.
