Golden Eagles Suffer Pair of Losses to Frostburg State

Charleston, W.Va. – Golden Eagles fall to Frostburg State in doubleheader.

Game 1

The Basics:
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 0, FSU 2
Records: UC (5-17), FSU (12-6)

How it Happened:
Breven Deckrosh got the start on the mound for UC. This game was a true pitchers duel. Frostburg struck first when Manny Hall launched a solo home run to right field, giving his team a 1–0 lead. That swing would stand as the only offense for several innings, as both teams settled into a defensive rhythm and kept additional scoring opportunities in check. Both pitchers were nails for the rest of the game. It wasn't until the 7th inning that the lead was extended. Brian Scott came through with a clutch single to center field, bringing home Drew Jourdan—an unearned run—to make it 2–0. With just two runs on the board, the pitching and defense did the rest, preserving the shutout and securing a 2–0 victory.

Game 2

The Basics
Location: Welch Athletic Complex
Score: UC 3, Frostburg State 13
Records: UC (5-18), FSU (13-6)

How it Happened
Not much happened early on. In the top of the 3rd, Samuel Lemond put the first run on the board with a solo home run to left-center, giving his team an early 1–0 lead. The advantage didn't last long,
though. In the 4th, CJ Carmichael answered with a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Jake Holler to tag and score, evening things at 1–1. The deadlock continued into the 5th, when Andrew Kobryn lifted a
sacrifice fly to center that brought home Zachary Syvertson, nudging his team ahead 2–1. But in the 6th, the momentum swung sharply—and decisively.

After a wild pitch allowed Drew Jourdan to score and tie the game at 2–2, the offense erupted. Mike Swick ripped a two-run double down the right-field line to give his team a 4–2 lead. Moments later, Tanner Cunningham followed with a two-run single to center, extending the margin to 6–2. The inning kept unraveling for the defense as Jackson Schalick drilled a two-run double to make it 8–2. Even a double play couldn't stop the rally, as another run crossed the plate to push the lead to 9–2 by the end of the inning. Although the opposing side managed to scrape across a run on a fielder's choice to make it 9–3, the damage had already been done.

In the 7th, the offense stayed hot. Cunningham added a sacrifice fly to score another run, and Schalick capped the scoring with a three-run homer to left-center, sealing a dominant 13–3 victory.
