Golden Eagles Open Season With Back-to-Back Tournament Victories

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston women's golf team has opened the 2026-27 season in impressive fashion, capturing back-to-back tournament championships to begin the year.

The Golden Eagles first claimed the team title at the UC Invitational, held September 9-10 at Edgewood Country Club, before carrying that momentum into the ODU Champions of Women's Golf on September 12-13.

Charleston's opening tournament featured a record-setting performance from Julia Cebula, who made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut. Cebula fired a remarkable 68 (-3), establishing a new University of Charleston women's golf record for the lowest single-round score in program history.

The historic round helped propel Cebula to the top of the individual leaderboard, while the Golden Eagles secured the team championship at their home invitational. Charleston finished the 36-hole event with a team score of 598 (+30), three strokes ahead of runner-up Gannon.

Following the UC Invitational championship, the Golden Eagles quickly turned their attention to the ODU Champions of Women's Golf, hosted by Ohio Dominican University on September 12-13. Charleston continued its winning ways, once again finishing atop the team standings to claim its second consecutive tournament championship to open the season.

The Golden Eagles' depth was on full display at ODU, with three Charleston golfers finishing among the top five individually. Cebula carded a 73 to finish tied for second, alongside teammate Lucia Martin. Gadea Melgarejo also posted a strong performance, shooting a 74 to finish among the tournament's top five.

The back-to-back championships provide Charleston with tremendous momentum early in the season and showcase the depth and consistency of the Golden Eagles' lineup. After winning at home at the UC Invitational, Charleston proved it could carry that success onto the road at ODU.

For Cebula, the opening two tournaments have provided a memorable start to her collegiate career. Her record-setting 68 at the UC Invitational established a new standard for UC women's golf, while her 73 at ODU helped her secure another top-three individual finish.

With two tournament victories already secured, the Golden Eagles will look to build on their perfect start as they continue their 2026-27 campaign.
