Maddux Minton

Maddux Minton will be entering his second season with the Golden Eagles in 2023-2024. He was named assistant coach in July of 2022 and helped the Golden Eagles collect the MEC South Division title, and MEC Championship in 2023. Minton serves as the Pitching Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, and Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Golden Eagles.

In 2023, Charleston’s pitchers set a program record for strikeouts racking up 512 K’s and closed the season ranked second nationally in Strikeouts per 9 innings. The pitching staff was elevated in other statistical categories including Top 25 results in Hits per 9 innings and finishing 20th in strikeout to walk ratio. Starting pitcher Cole Peschl won 9 games and earned All-MEC First Team and All-Region recognition. Minton also helped starter Dane Sykes earn All-MEC First Team.

The Golden Eagles set the school record with 43 wins last season. Minton assisted in the team’s automatic birth to the NCAA Regional Tournament, while coaching six Golden Eagles to earn All-MEC honors including the MEC Player of the Year.

Before joining Charleston, Minton spent two seasons as the recruiting coordinator and pitching coach at East Stroudsburg University. During his time at ESU, he facilitated a major transition of the pitching staff to a dominant force from a team ERA of 6.66 to 3.87, between his first two seasons. In 2022, the Warrior pitching staff set the program single season strikeout record of 522 K’s. This transition occurred after only compiling 278 strikeouts in the year prior.

ESU was anchored by All-PSAC East First Team selections Brent Francisco and Chase Nowak, who each earned additional recognition on the ABCA/Rawlings, D2CCA & NCBWA All-Atlantic Region teams. Francisco set the single-season records for innings pitched (89.1) and strikeouts (116), while Nowak tied for the best winning percentage with a perfect 9-0 record.

Minton worked closely with Nowak who is now the All-Time strikeouts leader (302) and wins leader (27) at ESU. He also coached right-handed pitcher Tommy Reisinger who was selected 10th round in this year’s 2023 MLB Draft.

Minton assisted the Warriors to a school record 41 wins and an additional program record of 15 straight victories during the 2022 season. The pitching staff completed the season ranked 10th in the country in team ERA. The Warriors reached the PSAC Championship game and the NCAA Atlantic Super Regional falling just one win short of the College World Series.

In 2020, Minton worked a summer at Rockland Peak Performance in Paramus, New Jersey. He interned in data analytics & research while also working as a throwing coach under Nunzio Signore. He assisted with video analysis of pitchers, operating Qualysis 3D motion capture with the teams biomechanist, and conducted research studies to further advance player development and athlete success.

Minton acquired his master’s degree in exercise science during his time with East Stroudsburg. He also became CSCS certified and oversees all strength & conditioning functions for the Golden Eagle baseball program.

Minton graduated from SUNY Brockport in New York after playing three seasons for the baseball program and later transitioning to assistant coach for his final season at the university. During his playing career, he managed to strike out 41 batters across 43.2 innings.

Minton is a native of Conesus Lake in Western New York.
