Quinn Sanders is a visionary leader in collegiate football, currently serving as the Head Football Coach at the University of Charleston since March 2022. Known for his strategic acumen and dedication to player development, Sanders has helped transform the Golden Eagles into a championship team within the Mountain East Conference (MEC).
Under Sanders' guidance, the University of Charleston Football program achieved unprecedented success, culminating in the 2023 MEC Championship, the first football championship for the university since 1952. Sanders led the team to a record-breaking season with 10 wins, earning a notable 19th ranking in the final AFCA poll. The Golden Eagles boasted a top 5 scoring offense nationally, averaging 44 points per game, and secured their first-ever playoff win, marking a historic milestone in school history.
Sanders' coaching prowess was acknowledged with the MEC Coach of the Year award, recognizing his excellence in leadership and program development. Beyond coaching, Sanders played a pivotal role in fundraising efforts, spearheading a $400,000 renovation of the locker room.
Prior to his role as Head Coach, Sanders served as Offensive Play caller, Quarterbacks Coach, and Offensive & Recruiting Coordinator from February 2021 to March 2022. During this period, he led the team to become Spring 2021 MEC South Champions, achieving notable offensive statistics with 37 points per game and 427 yards per game. Sanders developed standout players such as Conference Player of the Year RB Tyreik McCallister and 2-time All-Conference QB Guy Myers.
From March 2017 to February 2021, Sanders excelled as Quarterbacks Coach, Passing & Recruiting Coordinator, Equipment Manager, and NFL Liaison at the University of Charleston. Quarterback Brant Grisel would set school records in passing yards and touchdowns in 2019 while also being named an Academic All-American. Sanders also facilitated NFL scout visits and represented the university at professional events, enhancing the program's visibility and recruiting efforts.
Sanders began his coaching career at the University of Charleston in June 2013, assisting with quarterbacks and running backs while contributing to scouting and opponent analysis. His early coaching experience includes roles as Wide Receivers Coach at the Australian National Team during the IFAF World Championship, and Running Backs Coach at Midwestern State University, where he coached two All-Conference players and contributed to a top 10 national rushing offense.
Sanders graduated from the University of Charleston in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Law and was a member of CHI ALPHA SIGMA. He remains actively involved in professional organizations such as the National Minority Football Coalition and AFCA.
