Collin Barth

University of Charleston head men's basketball coach Dwaine Osborne, added Collin Barth to his staff as an assistant coach April 2018, heading into the 2018-19 Golden Eagle season. "I am so excited to have Collin join the program. He comes highly recommended and has experiences at both the NCAA DI and DII levels, along with time as an AAU coach" said coach Osborne. "His work ethic and desire to be great will be a perfect fit for our Golden Eagle program."

In his first season with the Golden Eagles, they achieved a record of 20-9, which is only the 2nd 20-win regular season in the last 17 years at UC. Working primarily with the post players, Coach Collin has helped develop two All-Conference selections, Lamont McManus and Devon Robinson, to being some of the top field goal percentage players in the country. McManus finished #2 in the country for the 2018-2019 season shooting 67.6% from the floor and Robinson finished the season #10 in the country shooting 61.1%, while both players averaged double figures in scoring per game.

Along with individual player success, the Golden Eagles finished #2 in the country in field-goal percentage, shooting a phenomenal 52.1% while averaging 86.6 points per game, the country’s #18 scoring offense. Also, the Golden Eagles capped off their 2018-2019 season with a monumental win vs. West Liberty on the road when they were ranked #2 in the country. It is the first time Charleston has won at West Liberty since 2004. Barth’s other responsibilities with the program also include Opponent Scouting, Fundraising, all things Team Travel related, ordering equipment/gear and inventory, assisting with summer camps, all things film related. Barth also serves as the program’s Academic Coordinator.

Having deep recruiting roots in the Midwest, recruiting connections around the country, and international ties, Barth serves as the program’s Recruiting Coordinator, and has been a major asset signing high character, talented players in every class during his tenure at UC thus far. 1st Team All-Conference Selection, Drew Rackley, played for Barth during his time with TeamWork Basketball (AAU), and has helped the Golden Eagles improve their scoring abilities while averaging 19.9 PPG for the 2018-2019 season. Prior to coming to Charleston, Barth spent two seasons on staff at the University of Detroit Mercy (NCAA DI) under former head coach Bacari Alexander. In his first year, he served as a Graduate Assistant and second season he was promoted to the program’s Video Analyst. His responsibilities varied at different levels within the program, mainly focused on assisting with game preparations and opponent scouting reports, academics, compliance, all things video related and assisting with on court workouts/practices complying with NCAA rules and regulations. He also spearheaded the start, build, and development of the student-manager program, which he started also at UC, that got to 12 managers within a year’s time at Detroit Mercy and 4 managers at the University of Charleston.

Before making the jump into the college coaching world, Coach Collin was an acclaimed AAU coach at the national level, and was the head coach for TeamWork Basketball, serving for five years during his own college playing career. TeamWork was prided on having high character kids, well rounded student-athletes, elite level players, with a high level of structure and culture for the AAU level. He posted over 150 wins and secured over 10 tournament titles. Barth coached 35 players who received athletic scholarships, 19 at the Division I level, and some who became household names throughout their college basketball careers. Most recently, the #11 Phoenix Suns lottery pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, Cameron Johnson (UNC) was coached by Barth.

He guided his team to a No. 1 ranking in the state of Ohio in 2014 and a national ranking of No. 24 in 2013. His teams have also won such events as the Nike Cup Tournament in 2014 and the Adidas Invitational in 2015. Barth also worked with The National Basketball Academy from 2011-2014 as a camp director, tournament site director, head coach, trainer and video analyst. Part of his job included organizing and directing youth basketball camps for the Cleveland Cavaliers. A four-year varsity letter-winner on the hard court in college, he started his collegiate career at Wheeling Jesuit before transferring and playing three seasons with Lake Erie College. He was named Wheeling Jesuit's Top Newcomer in 2012 after helping the team receive a NCAA Division II at-large bid and a win the first round (round of 64) of the men's basketball NCAA Tournament, the school's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. At Lake Erie College, he appeared in 68 total games and was a two-time member of the All-GLIAC Academic Team.
