CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Sophomores
Dan Walmsley (Manchester, England / Cardinal Newman College) and
Dion Peters (Trincity, Trinidad / EL Dorado Secondary) each netted two goals in leading the No. 4 ranked UC men's soccer team past Pitt-Johnstown 4-1, Sunday afternoon.
Walmsley got the game off to a quick start with his first score of the afternoon just 2:01 into the contest. He found the net after a great pass into the box from Peters for the quick 1-0 advantage. Walmsley struck for the second time just nine minutes later by drilling a rebounded shot past UPJ goalkeeper Nolan Levine to up the Golden Eagle advantage to 2-0.
Peters put the game away for Charleston with back-to-back goals at 13:01 and 23:14 to hand UC a comfortable 4-0 lead going into the break. Midfielder
Rob Vincent (Liverpool, England / Prescot School) recorded his third assist of the season on the first Peters goal.
Pitt-Johnstown got on the board on a penalty kick in the 53rd minute to end the scoring at 4-1.
Charleston outshot UPJ 22-13 on the afternoon to secure the victory.
UC returns to action at Schoenbaum Stadium on October 14 against non-conference opponent Lock Haven at 2:00 pm.
