Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston football team dominated its Homecoming game out of the gate to rush out to a 21-0 advantage in the first half, but had to rely on its defense to stymie a Fairmont State comeback after halftime to take a 35-27 win, Saturday at UC Stadium.

Charleston owned a 319-86 rushing advantage and Jordan Roberts (Madison, W.Va./Scott) scored three touchdowns on the ground to lead the Golden Eagles (3-3, 2-2).

Roberts tallied 75 yards on 13 carries, while quarterback duo of Maurice Leak (Waxhaw, NC/Parkwood) and Blaine Wilson (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) gained 77 and 51 yards on the ground, respectively. Nick Lockhart (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) chipped in 47 rush yards for the balanced Golden Eagle attack. Wilson also completed all three of his pass attempts for 72 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown strike to Julian Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) to seal the game for UC.

Danny Thomas (Bristol, Tenn./Tennessee) paced the Golden Eagle defensive attack with five tackles on the afternoon, while being followed closely by surging defensive back Aaron Dunlap (St. Albans, W.Va./St. Albans) who had four solo tackles.

Fairmont State received an 18-for-31 day from freshman quarterback Logan Moore. He completed touchdown passes to three different receivers and threw for 216 yards.

UC owned a 37:09 to 22:51 advantage in time of possession, as well as a 418-302 edge in total offense.

Charleston returns to action for its final home game of the 2010 season next Saturday, October 16 at 1:00 pm against conference opponent Seton Hill.
