CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Senior Emmalee Luther was a force in Charleston's second-round WVIAC Tournament game against Shepherd setting a team season-high with 21 kills in the 3-1 victory, Thursday evening.
Classmate Chantal Hebron supported Luther's effort with 13 kills and four digs as the Golden Eagles won by scores of 25-10, 19-25, 25-20, 27-25. UC spread the attack around the court with a season-high 58 assists led by senior Katie Williams with 48.
UC jumped to a 10-3 lead in the first set and never surrendered. Shepherd took control of set two with a 5-0 flurry on the way a 25-19 win. The Golden Eagles buried the Rams with a 15-3 run early in the third, while the fourth set wasn't decided until back-to-back Malleri Hardison smashes gave UC the victory.
Charleston now advances to the WVIAC Tournament semi-finals with a 5:30 pm matchup against defending champion Wheeling Jesuit on Friday, November 12.
