Box Score - Game Two

CHARLESTON, W.Va.  – The University of Charleston baseball program hammered out 23 hits led by senior Mike Dahl (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee Senior) with a 5-for-5 performance as the Golden Eagles won the first game of a doubleheader against Alderson-Broaddus in a 19-16 slugfest, Tuesday afternoon. Dahl’s performance over the last four days has raised his batting average to .411, which is his highest mark this season.

A ten-run third inning put Charleston on top of a comfortable lead allowing everyone in the starting lineup to record a hit in the inning. Ross Easterling (Logan, W.Va./Logan), Nick Barnes (Strasburg, Va./Strasburg), and Andrew Armstrong (Washington, Pa./Trinity) each managed two-hits apiece as UC tore through Battler pitching in the third.

Alderson-Broaddus managed 14 hits of its own as the Battlers scored in every inning except for one. Golden Eagle starter Wes Sherrill (Charlottesville, Va./Fork Union) weathered the A-B attack as he did not allow the Battlers any closer than three-runs at any point in the contest. Sherrill’s tossed 5.1 innings to earned his first win of the season (1-2) in seven starts.

Charleston recorded another big inning in the fifth to pull away for good as UC again hit through the lineup for the second time in the game. Two additional runs for each team in the seventh sealed the scoring for the contest and wrapped the final score at 19-16.

The teams combined for 19 hits in the second contest, but a six-run third inning doomed Charleston starter Josh Lewis (St. Albans, W.Va./St. Albans) as he suffered the loss after tossing 5.0 innings, before giving way to reliever Tyler Godfrey (Cincinnati, Ohio/Glen Este).

Barnes led the University of Charleston at the plate for the second contest with a 3-for-4 effort, while scoring a run.

The team returns to the diamond with a pivotal four game series against WVIAC Southern Division foe Concord with the first game scheduled for 1:00 pm on April 17th in Athens, W.Va.
