VIENNA, W.Va. - Freshman
Erica Bracey (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) led UC with a 3-for-3 performance helping Charleston edge archrival West Virginia State 4-3. The UC catcher also accounted for a solo home run as the Golden Eagles climbed out of an early 2-0 hole.
Stefanie Rossman (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) went the route to pick up the win for UC. She scattered eight hits and fanned two.
State was led by Mallory Hilton's 3-for-4 effort. Bobbi Harper and Poppy Ramey each added two hits for the Jackets. Sara Pelegreen took the loss, giving up nine hits and two earned runs in six innings.
The Golden Eagles now prepare for a second-round contest against No. 2 seeded Shepherd. The teams split their regular season meeting earlier this month with Charleston taking a 2-1 win, while dropping the second game to the Rams 3-5.
