CHARLESTON, W.Va. - California (Pa.) scored the tie-breaking run in the top of the seventh inning to defeat the University of Charleston 2-1 in the first game of a season-opening doubleheader Sunday at Triana Field.
In the nightcap, the Vulcans (5-3) scored five runs in the second and four in the fourth and defeated the Golden Eagles (0-2) 11-6. UC's Andrew Stitcher had three hits and two RBIs, and Ross Easterling had three hits in the second game.
UC starter Tim Ponn (0-1) was saddled with the loss after being roughed for six runs (all earned) on eight hits in 2.0 innings.
In the first game, UC's Anthony Pagano pitched a three-hitter and allowed just one earned run in seven innings.
