Softball Takes Two Key Regional Wins at Salem Invitational

2011 Team Stats

Salem, Va. –
Senior hurler Stefanie Rossman (Concord, Ohio/Riverside) continued her blistering early season pace with 33 strikeouts as she led the University of Charleston softball team to two strong regional wins over California (Pa.) and Shippensburg at the Salem Invitational Tournament.

Charleston has rode a wave of ups and downs already this season to start out the 2011 campaign 12-11 as the team has strung together a .259 batting average.

UC banged out 16 hits in the wins over the Atlantic Region powers as Cal (Pa.) has a 15-7 record, while the Raiders are currently 14-8 as each will be in strong contention for post-season play at the end of the season.

The Golden Eagles are led at the plate by power-hitting shortstop Ashlea Wallace (Winfield, W.Va./Winfield) who has reached safely in 14 of 35 attempts, while hammering three homeruns and booking an outstanding .771 slugging percentage. Junior Logan Tretick (Round Hill, VA/Loudoun Valley) paces the team with 18 RBIs and six doubles, while tying Wallace for the team-lead in homeruns.

Rossman is again on a national leading pace with 161 strikeouts in 130.1 innings pitched and has accumulated a 2.97 earned run average on 120 hits allowed.

The team returns to the diamond to open West Virginia Conference play on the road against Bluefield State on Wednesday, March 23 for a 3:00 pm doubleheader.
