PRINCETON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston baseball team landed four players on the West Virginia Conference All-Conference teams, announced Thursday evening.
Top starting pitcher Tim Ponn and the Golden Eagles leading hitter John Schraer led the Charleston selections with Second Team knods. Ponn was one of the top starters in the WVIAC ending the season with a 3.12 earned run average as he tossed 69.1 innings, third most in the conference this season. Schraer provided a constant threat from the middle of the lineup for UC ending 2011 with a .376 batting average to go along with a .444 on-base percentage.
Andrew Stichter and Frankie Mullens rounded out the Charleston selections on the WVIAC Honorable Mention team. Stichter, a Golden Glove nominee, led the West Virginia Conference as the top fielder with no errors in 265 chances, while recording a team-high 23 double-plays. Mullens came out of the bullpen for the Golden Eagles and was lights out this season with a 0.75 ERA, while allowing opponents to hit just .158 against him to earn a win and a save.
