Box Score

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Notre Dame (OH) took advantage of their set opportunities to upset the No. 6 ranked University of Charleston men's soccer team 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Schoenbaum Stadium.

As in every other contest this season Charleston (8-1-3) controlled possession moving the ball with ease across the field with No. 18 Notre Dame (OH) content on defending their half of the field. The Falcons attacked only once in the opening half, but it resulted in a corner kick which was converted into a goal on a well struck header past a diving Sean Teepen (Cincinnati, OH ).

The 1-0 lead held up for NDC headed into halftime despite being outshot by UC 6-1. After the break the Golden Eagles continued the attack but found a tough road against 9-10 defenders with Notre Dame (OH) continuing to select their attack opportunities. The visitors added two goals midway through the second half on sets in front of the goal after foul calls led to free kicks to create the 3-0 deficit for Charleston.

For the day, the University of Charleston held an 11-6 advantage in shots but were unable to stop the set plays created by the referree's whistle. On the day the teams combined for 22 foul calls as play was physical on both sides of the ball.

UC jumps back into conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 17 with a 7:00 pm tilt against Shepherd at Schoenbaum Stadium.
