Box Score
WHEELING, W.Va. -
Adam Hintz (Sharon, Canada ) found the back of the net in the 79th and 81st minutes to bring the No. 5 ranked University of Charleston men's soccer team from behind for a 3-2 win at Wheeling Jesuit, Wednesday evening.
Rob Vincent (Liverpool, England ) connected with
Dan Walmsley (Manchester, England ) on a corner kick at the 11:32 mark for the first mark of the contest to put the Golden Eagles ahead early 1-0.
WJU kept their offense moving against a staunch defensive effort by UC with Ignacio Fernandez finally breaking through on a corner kick attempt in the 33rd minute to send the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.
The home team put a scare into the University of Charleston with an early goal in the second half. Playing from behind isn't a position Charleston has found themselves in much this season, yet their patient control of the ball put the Golden Eagles in position to stay aggressive offensively.
Hintz was the benefactor of the patient play as his two goals came on runs from the left side with the ball being sent across in front of the keeper for touches to the net.
Nathan Schmitt (Muskegon, MI) was credited with the assist on the first score, while
Alexander Martinez-Gallardo (Vancouver, Canada) booked the assist on the second goal.
Wheeling Jesuit held a narrow 14-13 shot advantage on the night, but Charleston's 9-6 edge in the second half allowed the regionally ranked Golden Eagles to prevail and keep their conference record undefeated.
Sean Teepen (Cincinnati, OH ) was credited with four saves in the victory in goal.
Now the University of Charleston moves on to a looming matchup for the West Virginia Conference title on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 pm against West Virginia Wesleyan. The Bobcats will enter the weekend contest looking to snap UC's three-consecutive conference title streak, while they will also be playing for an NCAA Tournament berth (currently No. 5 in Atlantic Region).
