CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston defense held Seton Hill to just 46 yards rushing, while Jordan Roberts (Madison, WV) went off on the offensive side for 205 yards as the Golden Eagles took a 30-13 conference victory, Saturday afternoon.

Roberts took the opening kickoff down the field for 37 yards that was compounded by a 15-yard facemask penalty on Seton Hill, which allowed Charleston to setup at the SHU 34 yard line. After back-to-back short rushes Puma Nuredini (Naples, FL) stepped on the field and gave the home team a 3-0 lead after a 46 yard field goal from which they never looked back from.

Two possessions later Maurice Leak (Waxhax, NC) connected with Chris Maxwell (Fort Lauderdale, FL) across the middle of the field for 26 yards to setup the longest play of the day. Roberts took the ensuing handoff and rumbled over multiple defenders for a 61 yard touchdown to make the score 10-0.

The Griffins stopped Charleston on the final touch of the first quarter, yet the Golden Eagles still had points in the works as Nuredini blasted a 41 yard punt to pin SHU deep in its own territory. Seton Hill's deep man made an attempt on the ball at his own four yard line but bobbled the initial touch with his momentum taking him into the endzone where Justin Palmer (Lewisburg, WV) and Torie Wagner (Severn, MD) made the stop for the safety.

SHU broke up the shutout bid after pulling down an interception off Leak at the UC 35. The short field allowed the Griffins to put six on the scoreboard but a tremendous amount of pressure on the point after kept the score at 12-6.

Roberts and company used the final two minutes before halftime to manufacture the longest drive of the first half as they started from their own 14 yard line. Runs by Roberts, Leak and backup quarterback John Knox (Salisbury,NC) moved Charleston down the field to setup a one yard plunge by Roberts with only three clicks left before break. The touchdown sent the teams to the locker room with UC ahead 19-6.

Seton Hill marched down the field to open the second stanza for a 64 yard drive that ended in a touchdown run from two yards out to pull back into the game at 19-13. The score was the only marks in the scorebook for the third quarter.

UC got their offense back on track just second into the fourth as a 22 yard run by Leak set up another short touchdown run by Roberts. To create some distance in scoring the University of Charleston converted the two-point conversation as Roberts connected with Justin Davidson (Ashland, KY) on a "Tebow" like jump pass to pull ahead 27-13.

A flurry of penalties and an increase in the aggressiveness of the Golden Eagle defense silenced any shot of a comeback attempt by the Griffins. Nuredini provided the final points for the home team with 1:28 remaining in the contest with a 36 yard field goal that set the final score at 30-13.

For the day Knox and Leak combined for 100 yards in the air as Roberts provided the 205 yards on the ground along with three touchdowns. Knox contributed 34 yards, while Leak tallied 41 to assist Charleston in booking 280 yards on 48 attempts for the contest.

Trei Kelly (Glen Allen, VA) led the Golden Eagles defense with seven tackles on the afternoon, while Justin Avery (Charlotte, NC) followed close behind with six tackles, 2.5 for loss and an interception.

UC hits the road next week for a pivotal matchup at UNC-Pembroke on Saturday, Oct. 13. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm with both teams currently sitting at 5-1 overall.
