ELKINS, W.Va. - By limiting their errors the University of Charleston volleyball managed to hold off homestanding Davis & Elkins in order to end the regular season schedule with a 3-0 victory, Thursday evening.
UC committed just one error to hit .391 in the opening set as the Golden Eagles cruised to a 25-20 set win for the immediate 1-0 advantage. The second set didn't match the intensity of the first as the teams combined for 16 errors, while both also hit for just eight percentage. In a defensively dominant second set each team only managed 12 kills with Charleston emerging in extra points at 28-26.
D&E had the better offensive effort in what became the final set as the Senators booked 18 kills to only 11 for UC. It was the effort around the net by the Golden Eagles that forced eight Davis & Elkins errors leading to a game securing 28-26 win.
Malleri Hardison (Uniontown, PA) and
Katharine Furlong (Sedona, AZ) paced the offense for UC with 10 kills, apiece. On the defensive end
Kelsey Eby (Portland, OR) and
Ashley Douglas (Amherstburg, Canada) contributed with a team-high 14 digs each.
UC now awaits their seeding for the conference tournament as they look to host a first round contest on Monday, Nov. 12.
