GREENVILLE, Tenn. - Micki Murzynski (Erie, PA) went 2-for-3 and accounted for all three runs in a 3-2 victory over Augusta State at the Pioneer Classic, Friday afternoon.

Charleston (6-2) got on the board in their first at-bat as Murzynski booked her first RBI of the day with a single through the right side of the infield to score Janeen Vazquez (Cincinnati, OH). Vazquez had walked to open the inning before stealing second and being sent to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ayla Santos (Calvert County, MD).

Augusta State (6-5) got a run of their own after a Golden Eagle fielding error in the top of the third to pull within 2-1.

The third inning proved to be successful for UC after Santos reached on a single to start the bottom half of the frame. Logan Tretick followed the hit by reaching base by way of a walk, which setup the perfect scenario for Murzynski to deliver...........again. She did just that with a double to left-center field for two more RBIs for what would be the game-winning hit.

The Jaguars made Charleston sweat in the top of the seventh plating a run and putting the game-tying runner on second base with two outs. Golden Eagle ace Emily Fultz (Germantown, OH) buckled down to close out the win and force a ground ball back to the circle for the 3-2 victory.

Fultz went the distance for UC to improve her rookie-season record to 4-0 with a 0.66 ERA. At the plate the University of Charleston managed just three hits with Murzynski providing two.

In the first game of the Pioneer Classic against host Tusculum Kelsee Blackwell (New Castle, IN) scattered six hits, but defensive miscues allowed three runs (one earned) in a 3-1 loss to Tusculum.

Vazquez put the only mark in the scorebook for UC with an RBI single in the third inning to plate Andrea Hayes (Columbus, OH).

The University of Charleston now takes its 6-2 record further south for a two-day set that offers doubleheaders against No. 1 ranked Alabama-Huntsville and No. 14 University of Indianapolis.
