CHARLESTON, W. Va. – WV Wesleyan amassed a 5-2 win over Charleston to end the Golden Eagles hopes of a WVIAC Tournament title.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play while the squad registered three wins in singles action to secure the victory.
In doubles play, WVWC’s Aitor Reparez and Joel Izquierdo downed Sam Humphrey and Dennis Okoth by an 8-4 score at the top spot. Javier Yim Kim and Eduard Gusevs defeated Matt SHerba and Rico Williams at the No. 2 position by an 8-4 count. The Golden Eagles got on the board with a 9-7 win at No. 3. Kyle Barrett and Gabriel Seymour registered the win over Douglas Oliviera and Nathan Savil.
The Bobcats ended the match by claiming three of four matches in singles action. Yim Kim beat Sherba 6-0, 6-3 at No. 1 while Gusevs posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Humphrey at the No. 2 slot. UC’s Gabe Seymour helped UC stay in the match with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Jack Walder at the No. 6 position, but Oliviera’s win over Barrett at No. 4 concluded the contest. He won by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
Charleston will now await word on an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament to be announced on Tuesday, April 24 at 8:00 pm at
www.ncaa.com.
