VIENNA, W.Va. - The University of Charleston dropped back-to-back games to be eliminated from contention in the WVIAC Tournament on a rain soaked Thursday evening.
Alderson-Broaddus jumped all over Golden Eagle ace
Emily Fultz (Germantown, OH) for seven runs in the second inning and never looked back to send UC into an immediate turnaround for their tournament life.
The Battlers tallied 13 hits and 10 runs in the contest against Fultz and reliever
Kelsee Blackwell (New Castle, IN).
Ashlea Wallace booked the only mark for Charleston with a solo homerun to leadoff the fourth inning in the 10-1 decision.
Fultz suffered the same fate in game two as Seton Hill used a four run second inning to take an early advantage that the Golden Eagles fought against for the duration of the contest.
Charleston faired better at the plate against the Griffins by outhitting the lower seed 12-to-9.
A two-RBI double by
Angel Withrow (Cross Lanes, WV) pulled the Golden Eagles within 4-2 in the fourth frame, but SHU responded against Blackwell who was called upon in relief for two runs in the sixth.
Withrow again stepped to the plate a delivered a blow to Griffin pitcher Christine Henderson with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth to pull the University of Charleston within two-runs. Cera scored on the blast after leading off the inning with her first career triple.
Seton Hill put Charleston down in order to close out the game and seal the 6-4 victory ending the Golden Eagles quest for a WVIAC Tournament championship.
UC now returns home to await word on an NCAA Tournament at-large bid. The team entered the tournament ranked No. 6 in the Atlantic Region with eight teams being selected during the Monday morning selection show at
