Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The University of Charleston women's volleyball team would face off with fellow MEC member Urbana University and come away with a decisive 3-0 in the Eddie King Gymnasium Friday evening.
Charleston was coming off two straight defeats by MEC opponents and were in need of confidence and a win. The team responded to Coach Kozak's challenge and put together three strong games against a pesky Blue Knight team. The Golden Eagles would easily cruise through the first set 25-15, hitting at an incredible .533 percentage for the first frame.Â
Urbana would fight back in the second set, forcing Charleston to come up with a late rally to take the set at 25-21. The third and final set was again closely contested as the Blue Knights would fight back late in the set, but Charleston was too much for the Blue Knights this evening and would walk away with a 25-20 third set win and 3-0 match win.
Victoria Severo and
Clairissa Larry would both finish with double digit kills while
Melissa Reyes would pace UC with 19 assists and 14 digs on the night.
UC would improve its overall record to 11-7 and get to .500 in the MEC at 3-3. With the loss, Urbana goes to 5-11 on the 2013 season and a 2-4 MEC record.
The Golden Eagles return to the court in seven days as they head to Fairmont to take on the 15-3 Falcons who carry a perfect 5-0 MEC record.
