Eagles Keep Unbeaten October Intact

Box Score

Charleston, W.Va. - University of Charleston Men's Soccer program continued their month of October four game winning streak and is now 8-3-1 in 2013 campaign. After winning against Concord, Wesleyan, and Notre Dame, Golden Eagles prolonged their domination over Shepherd University on Saturday afternoon in Shepherdstown, WV.

Charleston came out of the gates strong and it only took them 30 seconds to create the first chance in front of the Rams goal. Lewis Osborne made a great run down the right flank and crossed the ball for Jules Gabiaddini who didn't waste any time with his shot, but fortunately for Shepherd the ball flew over the crossbar. Composed play all over the field with great combination passing earned Charleston a few more goal scoring opportunities very early in the game. However it wasn't until later in the first half that Golden Eagles took the lead. Jules Gabiaddini gave a great pass inside the 18 yard area to Augusto Maciel for a one touch finish and 1:0 lead.

Charleston continued threatening Shepherd's goal and soon after Lewis Osborne got himself on the stats sheet with a great one on one finish after receiving a 60 yard long pass from Conor Branson. Shepherd's only chance came after a bit of miscommunication among Charleston's defenders but the Ram shot went wide of Fabian Vait's goal. Alex Martinez and Lewis Osborne had a few more looks at Shepherds goal but the first half ended with a 2:0 lead for Golden Eagles.

Apart for a few substitutions on both sides, the second half didn't bring a lot of changes on the field. Shepherd kept defending and Charleston kept moving the ball around, creating frequent goal scoring opportunities. Osborne, Martinez, Maciel, and Gabiaddini all took turns trying to score, but the only lucky one among the bunch was Augusto Maciel who scored his second and third goals to complete his first collegiate hat trick and give Charleston a 4:0 lead.

Shepherd managed to create a few chances toward the end of the game but they were not dangerous for Fabian's goal.University of Charleston continues their pursuit of MEC championship title on Wednesday night at 7pm at Schoenbaum Stadium against Urbana University.
