Football Loses In Double Overtime 3-9

Missed field goals and fumbled opportunities doomed the Golden Eagles as they lose for the first time at home this season 3-9. Charleston scored in the first quarter on a 27 yard kick by Puma Nuredini. In the second, UC and Concord would exchange punts with the only effective drive coming from the Golden Eagles. It ended with an incomplete pass on a fourth and four from the Concord 36 yard line. Charleston would start the second half with the ball, putting together a long drive of fifteen plays for 71 yards before being stopped at the Concord four yard line on fourth down. The rest of the quarter each team was unable to gain more than nineteen yards on any possession. On the first possession in the fourth quarter, Concord blocked the Nuredini punt recovering the ball at the Charleston 23 yard line. Penalties and a strong defense kept the Mountain Lions at bay as they lost six yards on the series. Concord attempted a field goal but the kick was blocked by Robinson. On the first play after the blocked kick, Leak fumbled and the ball was recovered by Concord. CU capitalized on the good field position, gaining fourteen yards and then kicking a field goal. Score tied 3-3. The Golden Eagles would punt the next two series. After the second punt, Concord was able to advance the ball to the UC 28 yard line for another field goal attempt missing wide right. UC followed the field goal with big plays before a Leak interception. Concord would attempt a long field goal at the close of the half but the kick fell short. In the first overtime each squad missed field goals after negative rushes. During the second overtime, Concord took first possession scoring in three plays but missed the extra point to take the lead 3-9. Charleston was able to put together a couple decent rushed aided by a penalty and a long run by Settle to get to the three yard line. John Knox then took the ball up the middle to the one yard line. On third down, Knox again took the snap but was stopped in the backfield and fumbled, losing ten yards on the play before recovering the ball himself. On fourth down, the Golden Eagles threw a pass out to the flat but the ball was batted down by the Concord defender ending the game 3-9.
