UC Finishes Regular Season with 4-0 Win over Concord

Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - UC ended the 2013 season in style defeating the visiting Concord Mountain Lions 4-0 at Schoenbaum Stadium Wednesday evening.

UC would strike first 17 minutes into the first half when Michael Hagarty weaved his way through the Concord defense and beat the keeper only to hit the post but Conor Branson followed the play and cleaned up the rebound to give Charleston a 1-0 lead. The Golden Eagles found the net again with eight minutes remaining when Brett Elliott took a ball from the middle of the field 25 yards out and smashed a shot that beat the Concord keeper in the right upper 90.  The Golden Eagles dominated the first 45 minutes totalling seven shots to Concord's one and carried the 2-0 lead into the locker room at the half.

Charleston continued their scoring in the second half, finding the net 14 minutes into the half when Lewis Osborne took a feed from Bruno Oliveira inside of the 18 yard box and cleverly beat the Concord keeper to the lower left corner giving UC the 3-0 advantage.  The Golden Eagles would add another late goal in the 86th minute after a corner kick that bounced around the box before falling to Jake Young who easily beat Concord's keeper for the fourth tally of the match.  Concord was awarded a late PK but UC keeper Fabian Veit was up to the challenge and turned away the best opportunity for the Mountain Lions.

With the win Charleston ends the regular season 10-5-1 and 8-3-1 in the first season of the Mountain East Conference.  UC finished 2nd in the conference and will now prepare for the MEC Championship to be played on November 7th and 9th in Fairmont, W.Va.
