Volleyball Takes Tough Loss at WV Wesleyan

Box Score

Buckhanon, W.Va. - The Golden Eagles weren't able to come back with a win against WV Wesleyan Friday evening as the Bobcates continued their perfect start to their Mountain East Conference season. Charleston would be blanked by the Bobcats, falling 3-0, in all close sets.

The University of Charleston (10-6, 2-2) started off strong holding a slight edge throughout the first game drawing close to the victory, however the Bobcats (5-12, 3-0) would storm back after being down set point 24-20, squaring the game at 24 all. Then with some clutch serving the Bobcats were able to finish off Charleston win the next two points earning the win.

In the second set, Wesleyan would control much of the net, sending Golden Eagle attacking attempts back to their side stretching out a cushion for the Lady Bobcats

With one game remaining to complete the sweep, the Bobcats turned to great defense to continue to put pressure on Charleston. The Bobcats, like in game two, jumped out to a lead, but several Golden Eagle attacks would land them back in a dog fight. With the game on the line the Bobcats were able to culminate the night with another close, 25-22 victory, thus, earning them the clean 3-0 sweep of Charleston.

UC would struggle in their attacks for the match, converting only 26 kills compared to 25 attack errors. Charleston's most effective hitters for the game were senior Brenna Youlton (Chatham, Canada) and freshman Olivia Livengood (Norwalk, OH) who combined for 11 of the Golden Eagle kills.

With the loss, Charleston moved to .500 for the season in the MEC with a rivalry matchup with WV State coming up on Tuesday from Institute, W.Va.
