Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Golden Eagles men's soccer team would walk away with a well deserved 3-0 win over WV Wesleyan Saturday evening in front of a energetic crowd.
In a match that was plagued by early bookings, Charleston would take advantage of a direct red to a Bobcat in securing the 3-0 Mountain East Conference win. In the early stages of the first half, WV Wesleyan would pick up a red card, leaving them with 10 men and opening the door for UC to feast on the early mistake.
The Golden Eagles would put continuous pressure on the short manned Bobcat team and eventually earn a 1-0 lead heading into halftime after a
Jules Gabbiadini (York, England) finish to please the UC faithful.
The second saw Charleston pick the pace offensively which would lead to an unusual suspect leading the scoring charge in
Bruno Oliveira. Ten minutes into the second half, Oliveira would collect a ball just outside of the 18-yard box, move it to his favorite left foot, then crack a bending shot that found its way past the Wesleyan keeper into the right side netting to give UC a 2-0 lead.
Despite being down a man, the Bobcats would create a few good opportunities in the second 45, but UC goalkeeper
Fabian Veit (Dielheim, Germany) was always up to the challenge turning away every effort to keep his clean sheet.
Oliveira moved from his left back position to the wing midway through the second and he once again took advantage of the scoring opportunity. This time he outran the Bobcat defense as a ball was played over top that he ran onto, then cleverly chipped it over the approaching keeper to give him his second goal of the evening and Charleston the 3-0 win.
Charleston will take to the pitch once again on Wednesday, as they host nationally ranked Notre Dame College in a rematch which the Falcons won 3-1. Game time is set for 7pm at our home venue at Schoenbaum Stadium.
