Football Announces 2013 Recruiting Class

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Third year head coach Pat Kirkland and staff have hit the road hard all year long in preparation for today. Today marks the first National Letters of Intent from players who will suit up for the Golden Eagles in 2013.

This is Kirkland's second recruiting class as head coach for the University of Charleston and he expects it to add a great deal of quality depth to the already dangerous UC lineup.

Video Highlights

As a fixture in Coach Raymond Jennings’ offense, BJ flourished as a dual threat; both as a running back and a slot receiver. He finished his senior season with 1,016 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns along with 18 receptions for 171 yards and 2 touchdowns. BJ is also the leader of the Blazers 100m and 200m team with his best times being a 10.8 and 22.1 respectively.

Video Highlights
 
A dominate defensive linemen for Coach Keith Wilkes and Zebulon B. Vance HS. Josh led the cougars to a 9-4 record and trip to North Carolina state playoffs. During his senior campaign he accumulated 81 tackles, 16.5 tfl’s, 8.5 sacks, and 2 interceptions which he returned for scores. For his exceptional play Josh earned I-Meck 4AA 1st team all-conference. Josh also excels in the classroom carrying a 3.0 GPA.

Video Highlights

Ashton Ball joins the UC signing class after having a stellar senior season. Ashton totaled 86 tackles, 35 solo tackles, and 51 assisted tackles for the mustangs. He was also a force in the passing game having 7 sacks, 8 QB hurries, 14 tackles for a loss, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. Ashton is also a standout student who carries a 3.5 GPA.

LaDarrien Wilson

Tenoroc High School (Lakeland, Florida)

Video Highlights

For the past 4 years, LaDarrien has been a feature of the Tenoroc High School football team both on the offensive and defensive line. He finished his high school career with 39 tackles, 9 sacks and, his command of the line of scrimmage led him to receive 3rd team All Polk County offensive line honors in 2012. He also excels in the classroom as well, carrying over a 3.8 GPA.

Jestin was a standout running back for Coach Mike Sharnus at Altavista HS.  During his senior campaign he broke many school records including a season high 401 yards and 3 touchdowns verse Cumberland. Jestin also won the Virginia state 100 meter championship posting a 10.6 time.  In 2012 he took his talents to Hargrave Military Academy where he helped lead the tigers to a 7-3 record and win over rival fork union.

Joey Augustin

Video Highlights
 
Joey played quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and kick returner for CHS. He ran for over 2,000 yards and had 8 catches totaling 200 yards. He was named River Ridge back of the year, Utility player of the year for both the district and region. He was also named Honorable Mention All-State in Virginia. He will join former CHS teammate DeQuan Green-Gause as members of the UC football team.

Video Highlights

A standout player for Coach Dave Walker at Martinsburg High School and a three time state champion. Justin had 2,098 all-purpose yards and 52 total touchdowns in his senior season for the bulldogs. Voted 1st team All-State as senior and has been selected to play in the North/South All Star game this summer.

John Babos was a three year letter winner for Boardman High School in Youngstown, Ohio.  He earned First-Team All Federal League and Second-Team All NE Ohio.  Johns 2012 stats include over 2000 all purpose yards, Murric Award winner, as well as, a 2012 Team Captain.  John Babos is also a member of the All-State Academic Team.

Justin was First-Team all Federal League, First-Team NE Ohio, and Honorable Mention All-Ohio.  He led Boardman High in tackles with 120 and is the schools’ all-time sack leader.   Justin finished his carrier with over 300 tackles and was the Murric Award winner.

Cody is a multi-purpose athlete playing on both sides of the ball (WR, QB, RB, DB and DE). He was selected to play in the Broward County North vs. South All-Star game. On Defense he holds the Broward County Sack record with 31. He is the son of Dustin and Randi Rounds and is going to major in Business.

Video Highlights
 
A standout Linebacker for Coach Shawn Trent at Lakewood Ranch HS. Luke amassed over 100 tackles including 21 tackles for loss and 7 sacks. With his exceptional play he earned 1st team all-area and honorable mention all-state. Luke also excels in the classroom carrying a 4.0 GPA.

Video Highlights
 
A two year starter for coach Michael Palmieri and national power Mallard Creek. Kim  led the Mavericks to a 12-2 overall record and North Carolina state semi-final appearance.  He finished his exceptional senior season with 100 tackles and 10 sacks placing him on the  I-Meck 4AA  all conference team. Kim is also an excellent student carrying a 3.5 GPA.

Video Highlights

Seth was a three year starter for Coach Michael Roark and the Halifax Comets. During his junior and senior campaigns, he did not allow a sack. He also totaled over 100 knockdown blocks between the two seasons. Seth will help replace four all conference offensive lineman from the 2012 UC team.

Trevor is a two year starter from one of the best high school programs in the state of Tennessee. During his senior season he totaled 71 tackles and 18 tackles for a loss. He was also a force in the passing game with 5 sacks, 6 quarterback hurries, 1 forced fumble, and 1 pass break up.

Ryan Gamber  is a two year varsity starter for Sycamore High School under head coach Scott Dattilo.  Ryan’s relentless motor has helped lead the Aviators to the playoffs each of the past two seasons.  Ryan is a multisport athlete earning varsity letters in lacrosse and wrestling in addition to football.  On the gridiron Ryan was named AP Ohio Southwest ALL-District Division 1, 1st Team All Conference (GMC) and Cincinnati Enquirer Division 1 All City.

Sammy is a physical two- way player for Coach Mike Dawson at Ritchie County HS. Sammy was a 3 year starter, and was named 1st Team All-Conference twice. Sammy finished his senior year campaign earning 1st Team All-State honors.  Sammy will be great addition to the University of Charleston Football Program on the Offensive Line.

Eric is a physical defensive end for Riverbend HS. Eric was a 2 year starter for the varsity team.  In one game he recorded 20 solo tackles and 5 sacks. Eric is extremely focused and motivated to succeed.

Jonathan was a productive DB at Ardery Kell HS. He had: 43 tackles, 2 tackle’s for a loss, 15 Pass Break Ups, 1 Blocked Kick, 1 Interception, and 1 Touchdown.  He is the son of Ottis and Latricia Moore. Jonathan is undecided on his major.

Cedric is a two year starter and team captain for Coach Anthony Burgos. During his senior season he had 46 tackles, 14 pass break ups, 3 ints, 1 sack. He was named with 1st Team All Division and 1st Team All-Conference. He was also selected and started in the Crab Bowl which consists of Maryland’s top players.

Singleton Grant comes to UC from the powerhouse program Glenville High School in Cleveland. During his senior year he accounted for 78 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 2 forced fumbles, 1 safety, 4 sacks, and 3 pass break ups. He was also selected to 1st Team All Northeast Ohio District and 1st Team North Senate League.

Video Highlight

Tyrone is a big and physical defensive back that can play multiple positions. Tyrone had 95 tackles, 3 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, and 4 touchdowns during his senior season. Eastern Regional is ranked as one of the top 50 football programs in the state of New Jersey.

Video Highlights
 
 
Marvin is dynamic running back for Mountain View HS. Marvin is a very explosive with the ball in his hands. He has the size to run over defenders and the speed to run by defenders. Marvin was a 3 year starter at running back. He rushed for 2,687 yards on 505 carries and had 42 receptions for 251 yards. Marvin also had a huge impact on special teams, returning 3 kickoffs and 1 punt return for touchdowns. Marvin completed his career with 26 touchdowns.

Michael is a very athletic center for Lakewood Ranch HS. Michel is the younger brother of Matt Farhat who was a 1st Team All-Conference Center for the University of Charleston. Michael is an outstanding student in the class room and was a team captain. Michael was selected 1st Team All-District and was the starting center in the (PAL) Bowl All-Star game.

A dynamic two way player for Coach Jon Bolen and Parkersburg South. Logan finished his senior season with 90 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, and 5 interceptions. He also excelled on offense for the Patriots producing over 800 all -purpose yards and 7 touchdowns. Cox finished his career as a two time 1st team class AAA all-state defensive back, along with all-OVAC honors.

Vincent Rambo

Video Highlights
 
Vincent Rambo is an explosive running back out of Independence High School in Columbus, OH.  Rambo led Maurice Douglas’ 76ers with 1905 rushing yards which ranked 11th in the state of Ohio.  Rambo also scored 20 touchdowns on his way to earning first team All-City, first team All-Central District and second Team All-Ohio Honors.  Vincent is also a track star with personal bests of 10.84 in the 100 meters and 22.65 in the 200 meters.

Skylar is a two year captain and three year letterman for Coach Rayburn. During his senior season he contributed for 115 tackles, 3 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries, 3 forced fumbles, and had two interceptions. He was named 1st Team All Area and was a two year captain for the Judges.

Quincy is dynamic wide receiver and team captain for Chamblee HS. Quincy was named to the All-Region team as a senior. Quincy provides a huge impact on special teams where he returned 2 punts and 1kickoff for touchdowns. Quincy also excels on the track team for Chamblee High School.

Video Highlights

Mason Olszewski led coach Tom Phillips Pickerington North squad to a 12-2 record with an appearance in the Ohio Division 1 State Semi-finals.  Olszewski completed 127 of 205 passes for 20 touchdowns while rushing for 563 yards and 4 touchdowns.  Also a standout on defense, Olszewski registered 55 tackles to go along with 3 interceptions.  Olszewski was named first team OCC-Ohio Division, first team Central District, second team OCC-Ohio Division Punter, second team Central District Punter and OCC-Ohio Division Player of the Year.

 Tyler is a physical two- way player for Coach DeMarco at Riverbend HS. Tyler is the twin brother of Eric Marion who will also play defensive line for the University of Charleston. Tyler will have a huge impact on the defensive line playing at the nose guard position.

Trevor is a three year starter and a team captain for Daniel Boone High School. During his senior season he had 60 tackles, two sacks, and three forced fumbles. He was named first team all-conference defensive lineman and also named to the super elite team. He will join his brother Matt Duncan who plays linebacker for UC.

Video Highlights

Peter is a dynamic slot receiver who also excels as a kick and punt returner. During his senior season Peter hauled in 700 yards receiving and had 12 touchdowns. He was named to the 1st team all-district and had over 1,200 all-purpose yards.

DeQuan is a two way stand out for Coach Cromer and the blue devils. As a running back he was named 1st Team All River Ridge District, 1st Team All Region, and was named Honorable Mention All-State. He rushed for 1,295 yards, 18 touchdowns, and had an average of 7.9 yards per carry. Defensively, he totaled 119 tackles, 9 tackles for a loss, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 forced fumbles.
