Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - The University of Charleston came away with two wins Saturday over visiting Bluefield College, bringing their record to 3-8 on the young season.
Game One
Charleston would jump out early on the visitors from Bluefield, Va. scoring five runs in the bottom of the second on some miscues by the Rams.
Jacqueline Carlin (Whittier, CA) would get the scoring started on a single that would drive in two Golden Eagles. UC would add three more during the inning coming by way of errors by the Bluefield squad. Charleston would add another in the fourth inning making the score 6-0, before Bluefield would get in the scoring column in the top of the fifth plating one run, however Charleston would get the run back in the bottom half on a
Andrea Hayes (Columbus, OH) RBI single. Bluefield would threaten in the sixth and score two runs closing the gap to 7-3 going into the seventh inning, but
Angel Withrow (Cross Lanes, WV)would close the door on any hopes the Rams had as she retired the side without any damage, giving UC the win.
At the plate, Hayes would go 4-for-4 in game one, scoring two runs and knocking one in.
Courtney Fain (Urbana, OH)would get her first win of the 2013 season throwing six innings, giving up three runs on seven hits while striking out six Rams.
Game Two
It was a pitcher's dual for the first three and a half innings in the second game, as the teams would only combine for one run during that time, but in the bottom of the fourth, the UC bats would come alive as they would plate five runs. Charleston would get RBI's from
Ayla Santos (Calvert County, MD),
Kelly Browning (Fairfield, OH) and
Katelyn Hamilton (Parkersburg, WV) all in the inning to push the Golden Eagle lead out to 6-0.
Morgan Aguirre (Logan, WV) was sharp in the circle as well, as she worked five scoreless innings, giving up only two hits to the Rams. UC would score two more runs in the fifth inning instituting the mercy rule and taking home the 8-0 win.
The Golden Eagles would two hits each from
Janeen Vazquez (Cincinnati, OH), Santos and Browing in game two. Aguirre would get her second win of the season for UC improving her overall record to 2-3.
