Charleston Splits Doubleheader with Bobcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Charleston, WV - Charleston would pick up a split of the two-game series with visiting WV Wesleyan Saturday evening at Appalachian Power Park.

In game one the Bobcats would hit early and often off of UC pitcher Jake Ciolfi (Narrgansett, RI), pounding out eight hits and four runs in the first two innings to give WVWC a 4-0 advantage.   Wesleyan pitcher, Aaron Adams, was dominant on the hill going the seven full innings for the Bobcats only giving up six hits in the shutout victory.  The Bobcats would add two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings, giving them an 8-0 win in game one.   Despite the loss, Brad Johnson (Cranberry Township, Pa.) would go 2-for-3 in the game for the Golden Eagles.

Game two was a different story as the UC bats would get going, especially Igor Molina's.  Wesleyan would score a run in the top half of the first, but UC would answer on a RBI double by Igor Molina (Coral Springs, Fla.) that would score Ryan Foster (Cincinnati, OH) to even the score at 1-1.  Molina would come up again in the third and this time smash a solo shot to left field to give Charleston their first lead of the evening, 2-1.  Again, Molina would head to the plate in the fifth, this time with two runners on and would come through again with a three-run jack to push the Golden Eagle lead out to 5-1.  UC would add another run in the fifth when Chance would single to left scoring Hill.  Wesleyan would score a run in each of the sixth and seventh innings, but Lakatos would close the door on Bobcats giving UC the 6-3 win.

Alec Austin (Ronceverte, W.Va.) was solid on the mound in picking up the win, allowing only two runs in 5 2/3 innings.  Charleston offense was lead by Molina, who went 3-for-4 with a double and 2 HR's knocking in five.

Charleston will return to action today at noon today in a 9-inning affair with the Bobcats.
